I meant to say there are a few classics (meaning many) that I have missed....hah!

February's Pick!!

So, there are few classics that I seemed to have missed out on in my education. This is my attempt to fix that. My pick is The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck and is (apparently) an incredible book about a rural family in China. I don't know much more than that but I hope you enjoy!

Living in Nebali

All,
Well apparently I need to read a book on mental acuity or the lack thereof... I started to read the book that I recommended and it seemed very strange indeed. I kept waiting for it to get good....I spoke with Anne Taylor and she said "that's not the book". The book is called A General Theory of Love by three male physicians. Just forget it!!! My recommendation for the month is to read 1 Nephi, eat lots of chocolate, take a hot bath.... and enjoy the peace and comfort found in that far far away place known as "Nebali".....The place I must go to quite regularly.....

September's Book Pick

Mom needed asked me to post her pick for this month, so here it is. A Return to Love by Marianne Williamson. She discusses how the principles of Hell, God, You, Surrender, and Miracles form a spiritual practice with ramifications that give meaning to relationships, work, body, and Heaven. At the outset, she notes: "Love is what we were born with. Fear is what we learned here. The spiritual journey is the relinquishment, or unlearning, of fear and the acceptance of love back in our hearts." We can become miracle workers, according to Williamson, once we let our lives be unspooled in love. Anne Taylor gave mom the recommendation and said it is fabulous. Happy reading!

August's Book Review

As you all know I wasn't a huge fan. I don't understand why they make books so racy sometimes! I almost didn't finish it, but I kept thinking oh, that's the last part, it'll get better. Nope, there were some pretty uncomfortable parts right up until the end. When I finished the book I was like what the heck?!! Next time I read a book like that, I'll stop a lot sooner. It could have been a great story, the concept was totally there, but it was weak. In my opinion, one of the main causes for the weak factor was all the unnecessary rubbish. Oh well, I know no one else finished it and that is okay. Feel free to cease and desist if you haven't. Sorry our inaugural pick was less than fabulous (I know much of America loves it). On the upside mom did say the movie wasn't terrible :) Looking forward to Mom's pick next month!

August's Book Pick

For our inaugural book selection we are reading The Time Traveler's Wifeby Audrey Niffenegger. I don't want to give too much away, but I will say that it a love story about a man with a genetic disorder that causes him to time travel unpredictably, and about his wife, who has to cope with his frequent absences and dangerous experiences.

From the reviews I've read and heard, this is a great read! I'm so excited for our book club and look forward to our discussions. I love you all so much and am grateful to be in a club with such incredible women. I hope to learn and share a lot in our journey of reading together!

Happy Reading!
